The Midgard Serpent in Norse mythology is the enormous serpent that encircles the world of men. The Midgard Serpent is the offspring of Loki and Angerboda, and is the brother of Fenris and Hel. It was originally named Jörmundgand, but the Aesir threw it into the sea that encircles the world, because they wanted more control over the monsters.
