One of Thor's many names is Ake-Tor. He was given this name because he often rides across the sky in a chariot pulled by the two he-goats Tanngnjost and Tanngrisne. The myths tell that   thunder and lightning   occurs when Thor drives the chariot.

One of the two goats is lame. It happened once that Thor was traveling and stayed overnight at a small farm. Thor's two goats can be slaughtered and eaten and come back to life when the bones are put back in their skins unharmed, so Thor offered a dinner for everyone. The son on the farm broke one of the bones while he was eating, to get the marrow out, and because of that one of the goats became lame. As payment for the injury, the boy Tjalve   and his sister Roskva were servants to Thor, and they accompanied him on many journeys.
