Bjørn Jernside, Björn Járnsíða, was a Viking who ravaged France in the 8th century. He is referred to as a great warrior in the Viking Age.

According to Hervarar saga and Ragnar Lodbrok's saga, he was one of Ragnar Lodbrok's sons, and is said to have participated in his father's conquest of Paris.[1][2] The other sons of Lodbrok were Sigurd Orm-in-the-Eye, Halfdan Hvitserk, and Ivar Beinlause.

According to the saga, Bjørn was nicknamed Ironside because he was never injured in battle. This is explained by his mother's use of seid to make him invulnerable. According to the Hervarar saga, he inherited Svitjod – which is now part of Sweden – from his father, while his brother Sigurd Orm-in-the-Eye inherited the rest of Scandinavia.

According to the sagas, Bjørn is said to have founded a new Swedish royal family known as the Munsöætten/Bjørn Jernsides ætt. According to Johan Peringskiöld, Bjørn was buried in Björnshögen near Husby on Munsö in Lake Mälaren. Several of his descendants were given the name Bjørn. He had two sons, Refil and Erik Björnsson, and the latter is said to have inherited the throne of Svitjod after him.

According to Eirik Raude's saga, Bjørn is said to have had a son, Aslak. Aslak is said to have been the ancestor of Thorfinn Karlsevne, who is believed to have been the first Nordic explorer to discover America.
